Over the Years

I met Adriano and Glenda in about 1978/79 when I first came to Edmonton.  He had many friends, the majority of his friends were brilliant academics. Often in the early days,  I would end up at their house eating pasta  and  drinking wine interspered with singing songs which we all enjoyed. We did a little cross country skiing in those days. I once helped him crush grapes with our bare feet in large tub in his basement. He was going to make wine and he was doing it in the most traditional way.  Andy Johnson who eventually developed a winery on Vancouver Island was there that day. I can not remember now what the wine tasted like but that was 50 years ago.

I attended Glenda and Adriano's wedding which I remember well for some odd reason. I was quite saddened by their eventual divorce. He was a true bon vivant.  In later years we drifted apart but I would go down to his Edmonton "destination" restaurant in Manulife place several times a year and  have a glass of wine with him in his "closet" office in the back or occasionaly show up for the dinners out in the hallway. My wife and I also bought  many  high-end  kitchen items from the attached kitchen store. Glenda had developed that side of the business.

He invented a special oven for some of the unique dishes he made.  Our favorite was his rolled Bread/Italian stuffed loaf which was the only thing that was not made in our house when we hosted a big party.

I am saddened by his loss to everyone who knew him. I remember and loved those  days.

Rest in peace my friend.
