Obituary for Albert Adelard Faubert

Albert Adelard Faubert
September 25, 1947 – February 10, 2023

At the age of 75, Albert passed away from pancreatic cancer. He was born in Wolseley, Saskatchewan and raised on the family farm in Montmartre, Saskatchewan.

After graduating from the University of Saskatoon, he moved to Alberta with his wife of 25 years, Carol Zenuk, and began his 30-year teaching career starting with Edmonton Catholic Schools, then moving to Elk Island Public Schools, where he predominantly taught in Fort Saskatchewan at Rudolph Henning and Win Ferguson. His final years were at Colchester as Assistant Principal, when he obtained a bus driver’s license to assist with transportation for field trips. He will be remembered as a good teacher and fun to have on staff. After retiring, Al worked as a substitute teacher for Edmonton Public Schools, and since French was his first language, he was able to teach French as a Second Language classes. He enjoyed subbing kindergarten where the children affectionately called him “Mr. Bear”.

Aside from teaching, Albert was a farmer, boilermaker, home-renovator, landscaper, and landlord. As busy as he was, Al still found time to cross-country ski, waterski, downhill ski, ride a motorcycle, play the ukelele, teach line dancing, and be a handy man. He also loved to travel: across Canada, Europe, Mexico, United States, Cuba, Costa Rica and just recently, Newfoundland and the Eastern Mediterranean. He loved reading The National Geographic for its pieces on the natural world.

Albert was predeceased by his parents, Gerald and Maria Faubert of Montmartre, and brother Jerome of Wadena, Saskatchewan. He is survived by daughters Monique Reid (Chris) and Jennie Whelen (Kiley). Grandchildren Tristan and Jonas Reid and Broden, Brandon and Rachelle Whelen. He will be missed by special Friend, Carol Williamson, and close friend and colleague Dale Trudgeon. As well as by many friends and extended family.

Our sincere thank-you goes out to the staff at the Sturgeon Hospital in St. Albert for their compassionate care.

Donations in Albert’s memory can be made to the Canadian Wildlife Federation or the Salvation Army.

There will be a Celebration of Life on the evening of Saturday March 25, 2023. If you wish to attend, please RSVP: alfamemorial@gmail.com
