Obituary for Alexander Cristiano Mauro

We are heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of Alexander Cristiano Mauro, on March 31, 2022, at the age of 13 years.

Alex was born on February 23, 2009, to David and Donna and brothers, Nicolas and Matteo. He was loved by all who met him and will be greatly missed. Our Alex was the most kind, witty, happy-go-lucky boy, who dearly loved all his family and friends. His memory will be forever cherished.

Alex attended St. Angela French Immersion School from kindergarten to grade 6, where he had a close-knit group of friends, and was in grade 8 at Sir John Thompson Junior High School.

Alex enjoyed doing what most 13-year-old boys do – playing video games, hockey, volleyball, and hanging out with friends. He always loved to try new activities and sports such as basketball, lacrosse, roller blading and ball hockey. Alex especially loved musicals and could recite every word to Hamilton from memory. He spent a lot of time with his mom and dad, watching movies, listening to music, and going on adventures.

Alex was known as the kid with the biggest smile and the coolest style. People gravitated toward him – both new and old classmates and teammates. He was the best at making everyone feel loved and included. With his big smile and sparkling blue eyes he would tease you and convince you to do anything – but make you think it was your idea. Alex was very close with his brothers, Nicolas and Matteo, and always copied and followed everything they did – or more often than not, got them to do what he had in mind.

Alex is survived by his mom and dad, Donna and David; brothers, Nicolas and Matteo; grandparents, Dorothy McMaster, Angelo and Filomena Mauro; aunts and uncles, Darlene and Chris Fransen, Alaina and Michael Mauro and Patricia Mauro; cousins, Riley Fransen, Kiara, Luca and Tessa Mauro. He is also loved by many great aunts and uncles, extended family, friends, and teammates. Alex is predeceased by his grandfather, Don McMaster.

The family is eternally grateful to the PICU Team at the Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary, AB and the STARS Air Ambulance Team for their wonderful care and compassion.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Prayer Service for Alex on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church, 17511 – 112 street Edmonton. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 8, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church, with interment to follow at Holy Cross Mausoleum, 14611 Mark Messier Trail, Edmonton.
