Obituary for Darin Glenn Oakford

Darin Glenn Oakford
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Darin Glenn Oakford of Parkland County, Alberta on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at the age of 53 years.

Darin is survived by Kimberly, his loving and devoted wife of 27 years. He shall also be deeply missed by brothers, Shane (Donna) and Scott (Yvonne), along with numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his loving and supportive parents, Glenn and Marie.

Always one to make an impression, Darin was welcomed into the world as the Dawson Creek, BC New Year’s baby on January 6, 1970. He moved to Hythe, Alberta in 1974, where he spent his formative years. Darin took pleasure in playing hockey throughout his childhood and continued making memories on the ice well into adulthood. He graduated from Beaverlodge Regional Highschool in 1987, and the following year, he packed up his cherished ‘77 green Chevy pickup truck and headed to Edmonton to study Drafting at NAIT. This path ultimately led to a career in the trades, as an Iron Worker, something he very much enjoyed. Fate intervened, and in 1993, he embarked on a new career and joined Western Union Insurance as an Automobile Claims Adjuster. On April 13th, 1996, after a whirlwind romance he married his best friend and life partner, Kimberly and in 1999 they moved to an acreage near Stony Plain, Alberta. That same year fate, that sly Fox, intervened once again and Darin had the privilege of joining C.J. Campbell Insurance as a Commercial Account Executive. In 2004 he became a partner in the firm with his mentor and trusted advisor, Fred Weisse, eventually succeeding him in 2011.

As President and Senior Partner of CJ Campbell Insurance, Edmonton and Timberland Insurance White Court, Darin was a man of integrity and was held in high esteem by colleagues and clients alike. He will be remembered as a generous, fair, and kind man who was also a gifted storyteller and could communicate with people of all ages and backgrounds. Darin also believed life is just better with a dog and always had, at least one, loyal and trusting four-legged companion by his side.

Darin was fiercely independent, met challenges head on, and had a fervent spirit that longed for adventure. He was an ardent planner who embraced obstacles, both personal and professional, with unrivalled fluidity and grace. These attributes aligned perfectly with his passion for motorcycling, a lifestyle that took him all over the world, and blessed him with countless treasured friendships and experiences. Darin lived each day to the fullest.

His good humour, booming laugh, and larger than life presence shall remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Darin’s life will be held Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 3:30 p.m. at Park Memorial Chapel, 9709 - 111 Avenue, Edmonton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Edmonton Humane Society, a cause that held a very special place in Darin’s heart.
