The family of Douglas “Doug” Wayne Nixon of Edmonton, AB is saddened to announce his passing on September 20, 2022, at the age of 59 years.

Doug will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Arlene Nixon; sister, Rhonda Nixon; his uncles, aunts and cousins of the Nixon family: Ken (Patty), Ryan (Crystel), Dennis (Megan), Bryce, Joy (Bob), Jeff (Sol), Craig (Kelly), Loree, Rus, Carla (Kim), Joshua, Caleb, Jacob, Teresa (Mike), Daniel, Emily; his uncles, aunts, and cousins of the Gabert family: Len (Ellie), Leanne (Greg), Greg (Cathy) and Suzanne.

Doug was predeceased by his father, Wayne Nixon; grandparents, Louise and Eddie Gabert and Emily and Jay Nixon.

Doug grew up in Calgary and lived there until he was 13 years old. The family spent one year in Lac La Biche before moving to Spruce Grove and eventually Edmonton.

Doug’s passions were football (he played for the Ross Shepherd football team); canoeing, where he created many fond memories on family canoe trips; white water rafting, and kayaking. One of his best memories was bike riding across the United States when he was 17 years old with his best friend, Kevin and his father, the late Wayne Nixon.

Doug achieved a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Alberta, an engineering trade certification from NAIT, and he volunteered in senior citizen care facilities throughout his life.

A private Celebration of Life will take place.
