Obituary for George Ng

George Shiu Ming Ng, beloved father, brother, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at Ashbourne Assisted Living. George is survived by his daughter; Annette Yun (Andy); son, Allan Ng (Martha), and his sisters May Ying and Lai Ying. George is predeceased by his wife Phoebe, and his father E.Y. King Ng and mother Lily Kam Ling Koo.

George was born in Hong Kong on May 2, 1934. He developed an interest in education and ultimately became a teacher, vice principal, and author of several textbooks. He started a family when he married Phoebe in 1963 and their daughter Annette was born in Hong Kong in 1964. George and his family moved to Canada in 1968. Allan was born in 1970 while the family lived in Hythe, Alberta.

George was dedicated to each of his many careers. In Hong Kong, George was an educator who taught at Eastern Hospital Government Primary School, making a huge impact on his students who have stayed in contact with him. After George immigrated to Canada in 1968, he operated several restaurants in northern Alberta. Moving his family to Edmonton in 1982, George hit the books to earn his CGA accounting designation. He continued with entrepreneurial endeavours, owning two successful businesses. After his retirement, George applied his talent for organization to supporting various charities. One of his proudest achievements was helping to fundraise and build the Chinese Garden in Louise McKinney Park. He would spend much of his time walking around the garden with his wife and grandchildren. A lifetime writer, George continued studying Chinese history and a rare style of classical poetry. Beautiful calligraphy adorned his walls with samples of his unique poetry. George spent his final years at Ashbourne Assisted Living. Annette and Allan would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff who took care of him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation which was a charity that George often supported.
