Obituary for Helen Sorensen (Dakus, Diederich)

Helen Sorensen (Dakus, Diederich)
With the scent of lilacs and lily of the valley in her garden, surrounded by the return of all the spring birds, our beautiful Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunty and Friend finally met Jesus on Saturday, June 11, 2022. We are all so honoured to have been part of her spectacular journey.

Left to live by and pass along the lessons of her incredible legacy are her children, Thomas, Loreen (Ralph), Terrance, David, Gaylord (Tanya), Patrick, Diane (Don), Adrienne, and Christine (Tino). Giant parts of her heart belonged to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jaimie, Bo, Alicia, Elliott, Keith, Christopher, Jordan, Jacob, Timothy, Jenna, Rhys, Paul, Abigail, Jordan, Larissa, Peter, and their families.

Helen lived her life immersed in faith and all her actions centered around love, service and hope. She was smart, kind, brave, most forgiving, generous, loyal, optimistic, hopeful, and empathetic. She opened her heart and home to all, and she “got” everybody in their uniqueness and talent, while being an intent listener and supporter.

She had a smile for everyone, she accepted every individual at first meeting with great love. Her garden of flowers and friendships spanned her lifetime and was robust in it’s plenty, shared with all.

Helen’s positive and attentive, humble nature will be with us always.

Helen bounded into Heaven into the loving arms of her son, Paul; and daughters, Audrey and Clare. The youngest of her family, she arrived in time to celebrate her mother’s birthday with her parents, Mary and Joseph; and her brothers and sisters, Pawlo, Mykhaylo, Anna, Peter, John, Nicholas, Michael, William, Mary, Kathleen, Phillip, and Harry.

Prayers will take place Friday, June 17, 2022, at 7 p.m. at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, 11828 - 85 Street, Edmonton. Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at 10 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church with interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
