Obituary for Jason Gerald Crann
November 16, 1977 - June 23, 2022
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Jason “Jay” Gerald Crann of Sherwood Park, Alberta on Thursday, June 23, 2022, at the age of 44 years after a valiant, private battle with cancer. Jay was surrounded by love and is now peacefully at rest.
Jason will be proudly and lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 20 years, Nancy; his mother, Imelda Kennedy; his sister, Karen Snelgrove (Ron); his brother, Gordon Crann (Krista); his nephews, Ryan, Cole and Jacob; his dearest friends, Jason and Lynette Melvin; as well as Nancy’s family, many good friends and military brothers.
He was predeceased by his father, Alfred Crann; and stepfather, Peter Kennedy.
Jason chose to serve with the Canadian Armed Forces beginning in 1996. “Once a Patricia” - As a proud member of the 1st Battalion, Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry, Jason served in Bosnia, the United States and in many domestic efforts across Canada. In 2006, he began training at the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering at the Canadian Forces Base in Gagetown, New Brunswick and was later posted to 4 Wing Cold Lake, Construction Engineering Squadron. In 2011, he served in Afghanistan as part of the Provincial Reconstruction Team. And, in 2012, Jason was posted back to Edmonton to complete his career with 1 Combat Engineer Regiment.
In his retirement, Jason created his own construction company and expanded his hobby of wood working. The outdoors was Jay’s element and it was a passion that he and Nancy shared. His greatest joys were found outside, as he enjoyed fly fishing, hunting, hiking, camping and golf.
A Celebration of Jay’s Life will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at 2 p.m. at the Edmonton Garrison WOs’ & Sgts’ Mess, Building 210 Ortona Road, Canadian Forces Base, Edmonton.
Originally from Newfoundland, Jason’s life will also be remembered and celebrated Saturday, July 30, 2022, at 1 p.m. at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 110 Ashford Drive, Mount Pearl.
Jay’s wish was that we would come together to celebrate the time we had with him rather than mourn the time we will not get. Please join with his family to remember, laugh, cry and honour our husband, son, brother and great friend.
