Obituary for Joseph George Gyepesi

Joseph George Gyepesi
On Friday, April 07, 2023,
Joseph George Gyepesi,
Loving Husband, Brother, Father, Uncle, Grandfather, Great Grandfather & friend passed away at the age of 87 years old
in Edmonton, Alberta

George was born January 26, 1936,
to parents
Mihaly Gyepesi & Erzsebet Gyepesi (Szigethy)

Joined by 2 Sisters
Mary Gyepesi (Schaad)
and Elizabeth (Betty) Gyepesi

George met Patricia Mae Freeman and
they were married March 29th, 1956.
They began their journey in life with the arrival of Terry Lynn who brought great joy to their world on November 06, 1956

George Robert followed soon after, on October of 1958
Donald Stewart in August of 1960
Sandra Louise in January of 1962
David Russell in November of 1970

Throughout dads’ journey in life, he had many passions; one was the love of his job as a Firefighter, Captain and finally retiring as a District Chief with the City of Edmonton Fire department.

The other love for George was his music who he passed onto his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He played in many different bands over the years and enjoyed every minute of it. Even in retirement he would take time to go in his computer room and just listen to his favorite music and close his eyes to take it all in.

As a father he taught all of us children to be hardworking, honest, and loving.

He also had a habit of saying something at the dinner table that would set off a mass discussion and argument on the views of the world, then, sit back with a sideways grin and watch as the eruption happened.
We called that
his “stir the pot” moment.

Dad really enjoyed when all the kids would play pranks and jokes on each other, and just grinned with slight tearing up in happiness.

Dad was overjoyed with every new grandchild that came into his life

Christopher Meurin 1980
Kyle Meurin 1984, Christopher Wooldridge 1982
Amanda Giggey (Waldbauer) 1983
Jeffrey Wooldridge 1985, Ryan Giggey 1986
Adam Gyepesi 1988, Michael Giggey 1988
Kayla Gyepesi 1990, Megan Wooldridge 1991
Kiernan Gyepesi 2006, Halle Gyepesi 2009

Years after he was able to enjoy numerous great grandchildren.
Gabbey, Emma, Samantha, Zoe, Johnathan, Bethany,
Hailie, Bernard, Levi, Tegan & Lincoln

It was the light of his day when the kids would come and see him, he would play the grumpy grandpa, hence the nickname that the grandchildren and great grandchild call him.
“GRUMPA”

The family would not have been complete without the addition of wonderful nieces, nephews and their children joining the family on the acreage for the annual family barbeques, which is when dad was his happiest to have everyone around. Family was very important to dad and that will be a legacy that we all hope we can carry on, and the importance of family.

With all the things in life that dad loved, there was only one true love and that was Patricia Mae. He told her every day & night that he loved her with all of his heart. He loved doing things for her every day, right from chauffeuring her around the city doing groceries, getting her nails and hair done. He did this with pride and more love than any one man could give a person. Dad doted over mom and put her on a pedestal, that just shows how much love he had to give.

“We will miss you forever and hold you in our hearts
as you held us in yours”

Perhaps there are no
Stars
but rather openings in
Heaven
where the
Love
of our lost ones
Shine down
To let us know that they are
Happy

Thank you for being here to share in the life of Joseph George Gyepesi
