June 23, 1957 – July 18, 2022

It is with profound sadness, the family of Ken Bejcar announce his passing on Monday, July 18, 2022.

Ken was born on June 23, 1957, to Frank and Louise Bejcar. He was the second oldest of four children. Growing up on the family farm in Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan solidified his love of the great outdoors. Throughout his life he could be found hunting, fishing and enjoying his activities that took him outside. Ken also enjoyed riding motocross dirt bikes, adding his “no fear” quality to the mix. Adding to his love of hunting, he ended up having his own mini locker plant at home equipped with a meat saw, smoker and sausage maker which kept him busy every hunting season.

After his schooling, he started working at CN and this was the first of his many experiences. He mastered anything from auto-body work, operating his fence rail business, high-line logging in the mountains, caribou guiding in the NWT to picking matsutake mushrooms for the Japanese market. He had also been an oil field supervisor, water management specialist and could always fall back on his truck driving skills. One of his many accomplishments was obtaining his US Captain’s License and he wore his title proudly as “Captain Ken”.

Ken’s favourite job was managing the Wilp Syoon Wilderness Fishing Lodge. Not only could he catch the salmon, halibut and crab, but was a chef extraordinaire when it came to cooking up the catch of the day. He made many wonderful lifelong friends during his time at the lodge.

In 2017, Ken married his childhood sweetheart, Christine, after 12 years together. They spent their summers at Slave Lake out on the water seeing who could catch the most fish. They would catch so many that they used click counters to keep track of the fish they caught and released. Their home was always open, and Ken ready for the first eager ear to share his biggest fish story.

Ken is remembered for his incredible kindness, brutal honesty and a heart that deeply valued family and friendships.

Ken is survived by his loving wife, Christine; stepchildren, Glen, Kelly (Codie) and Dion (Andrea); grandchildren, Emily, Lucas, Corissa, Tai, Kamryn, Paycee, Kennedy, Kaine, Benson and Beau; great-grandchildren, Asher and Sutton; mother, Louise; and siblings, Susan (Roly) and Charlane (Trent). He was predeceased by his father, Frank, and brother, Bob.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all who have reached out with love and support during this difficult time.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 23, 2022, at 2 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, Edson, Alberta.
