Obituary for Marion Charlotte Bitner (née Roy)

Marion Charlotte Bitner (née Roy)
October 24, 1939 - June 21, 2022

It is with loving thoughts and treasured memories that Marion’s family announces her passing after a short stay at the Grey Nuns hospital.

Marion was born in Princeton, British Columbia, the second child of David and Charlotte Roy and little sister to Robert. Her father died in WWII and Charlotte remarried James “Ned” McPhillamey, and baby sister, Maureen was born in 1953. The family relocated to Yellowknife, where Marion made many friends, raised a little hell, and met Sam Bitner who would become her husband in 1958.

A year later, the Bitners moved to Edmonton and their family grew with the addition of Sammy in 1960, Kathi in 1962 and Robbi in 1975. Five years later, Marion and Sam moved to Whitecourt as the new owners of the Whitecourt Bottle Depot. Upon retirement in 1997, Marion and Sam took up residence on a farm outside of Whitecourt, enjoying the rural life while maintaining their ties to the community.

Marion is survived by her wonderful daughters, Katherine (Donald) and Roberta; beloved grandchildren, Todd, Darcy and Kelly (Jonathan); daughter-in-law, Margaret; niece, Kasey; sisters-in-law, Hedy, Sara (Irvine) and Erna (John), and numerous nephews, nieces, in-laws, outlaws and extended family.

Marion was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Samuel; son, Samuel Jr.; infant daughter, Lorraine; mother, Charlotte; father, David; dad, Ned; brother, Robert (Thelma); and sister, Maureen.

A Private Memorial Service will be held for Marion’s family and close friends, and her ashes will be inurned with Sam’s at the Brightwood Cemetery near Entwistle, Alberta.
