Mary Louise Richardson 90, of Lamont, Alberta went home to join her devoted husband, Lloyd; her three loving children, Sharon, Kenny, and Cheryl; her younger sister and dear friend, Gladys, her little brother, Patrick, and many of her close friends.

Mom was born in Crane River, Manitoba and was raised in a caring family in a tiny village on Lake Manitoba. She was lovingly referred to as “Mary Louise” by her family. As a young woman, she was working in St. Rose hospital as a nurse’s aide, where she met a young patient in her care who would forever change her life - this would begin their beautiful love story. After Dad was released from hospital care, he would come back for many (not really all that necessary) checkups just to see this beautiful woman who captured his heart. After a short amount of dating, his love for her quickly was reciprocated. They married, and together raised four
children in a loving, close- knit family and later moved out to Alberta upon settling in the Lamont area.

Along with spending time with her grandchildren, Mary’s other joys in her life were playing with her grandchildren, playing cards and board games, puzzles, bingo, knitting beautiful sweaters, scarves, mitts, and toques for her family, loved ones and also to those in need. She loved playing crib (and especially skunking many of us with delighted glee) and enjoying a nice cup of Red Rose tea.

She is survived by her loving family, daughter, Susan (James) of Vancouver; her son-in-law, Dennis (Cheryl); her daughter-in-law, Candace (Bob) of Nanaimo: her cherished grandchildren, Michael, Myles (Brad), Melissa (Corby), Laura (Ryan), Ava, Chelsea (Shiloh), Ben (Kelsey) and Hannah (Alissa); her great grandchildren, Khaliah, Josh, Amelia; her siblings, John (Laura), Doreen, Rosie (Robert), Arthur (Karen), and Earnest, her longtime, friend, Laura Preston; her “adopted” children, Walter & Lynn Seeley; and her many nieces and nephews.

Mary worked as a cook at the Lamont Auxiliary hospital and volunteered for over 30 years in the Ladies Auxiliary. After many years of retirement and her husband, Lloyd, passing, she made the decision of leaving their home and moving into Lamont Beaverhill Lodge. Moving to the lodge was an easy transition for her, as she had many friends awaiting her arrival. Mary would end her evenings by going down the hall and playing crib for an hour or so with a group in the lodge. Her days here were very filled and happy. Thank you to all the residents – her friends at the lodge.

Even though there was much loss in our family, Mom did not waiver in her deep spiritual faith. She still maintained a beautiful, loving, and positive demeanor. In Mom’s presence, her children and great grandchildren all knew that they were the star in her eyes, and we all felt very cherished. We will miss Mom’s wonderful banana bread and her butter tarts along with many, many wonderful family dinners.
