On March 30, 2023, Melvin passed away following a courageous battle with cancer. His light will not be extinguished because of his many gifts and the countless lives he touched. He will be remembered as a kind, thoughtful and loving soul.

Melvin leaves his aunt, Phyllis (Wayne) Johnston; uncle, Joe (Karen) Kokotailo; cousins, Erin Johnston, Mark Johnston, Terry (Brett) Swekla, Joanne (Greg) Wendell and Linda (Bruce) Lavoie; and friend, Nancy Oleinyk.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Misericordia Hospital and the Edmonton General Hospital Palliative Care Unit for their compassionate care of Melvin during his final days.

A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Park Memorial Chapel, 9709 – 111 Avenue, Edmonton. Reverend Father Benny Ambrosie officiating with interment in St. Pokrova Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Edwand Cemetery.
