Obituary for Nadine Luchka

December 10, 1931 – February 3, 2023

Family and friends of Nadine are sad to announce her passing on Friday, February 3, 2023, with close friends at her side. After falling and fracturing her hip, Nadine indicated her readiness to go to her eternal rest.

Nadine is survived by cousins, their children, and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Mary (Pawlyshyn) Luchka and Alex Oleshka Luchka; two brothers, Malcolm (2004) and Lawrence (2006), whom she sorely missed, and whose significant presence in her life was always a part of her daily conversation.

Nadine was born in St. Michael, Alberta, growing up on the farm and attending school in the area. She attended St. Michael Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church in Limestone Lake, AB. She moved to Edmonton to attend secretarial school, becoming an Executive Assistant for the Royal Bank, where she spent her entire working career.

During those years, Nadine travelled extensively. She took tours to Hawaii, England, Scotland, Europe, Greece, Australia, New Zealand and driving holidays to the USA and to western, eastern, and northern Canada. Her shopping excursions, both locally and while on vacation, usually included the purchase of fashionable watches and baseball hats for which she became well known. Her fashionable flare carried over from her younger days when she worked as a model.

Nadine enjoyed watching sports on TV – curling, hockey, and football. Her love of music took her to the Winspear for many concerts. She enjoyed both classical music and Hymn Sings.

Respecting Nadine’s wishes, a formal service will not be held. A private Celebration of Life will be held, honouring her memory while recognizing her Ukrainian heritage. Inurnment will take place at a later date where she will be buried alongside her brothers at St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Limestone Lake.

Thanks are extended to the staff at Our Parents’ Home, Aster Gardens where Nadine lived most recently, and the Royal Alexandra Hospital, for their support and care. Nadine’s last hours were spent at Touchmark at Wedgewood, Edmonton where she received loving and compassionate care.

Memorial donations may be made to Nadine’s favourite charity - Hope Mission, Women’s Shelter, 9908 - 106 Avenue, Edmonton, AB (Envelopes will be available at the Celebration of Life.) Hope Mission’s mailing address is Box 953, Edmonton, AB T5J 2L8. Donations may also be made to a charity of your choice.
