Mrs. Pui Ying Ma Leung, age 100, of Edmonton passed away on April 4, 2023.

Mrs. Leung is survived by sons, Dominic Leung and family, Howard Leung and family, and Gerard Leung and family; and daughters, Yuen Wah Leung Kwok and family, and Lydia Leung.

Mrs. Leung was born and raised in Zhongshan, China and moved to Hong Kong with her husband, Cheung Yuen Leung, in 1947. While in Hong Kong, Mrs. Leung worked in a knitting factory to help support her family.

She moved to Edmonton, Canada in 1980 with her youngest daughter, Lydia, to join Howard and his family. Mrs. Leung loved children in general and helped look after her grandchildren in Hong Kong and in Edmonton.

At age 65, Mrs. Leung moved to the Chinatown Elderly Mansion. She enjoyed shopping at the various Chinese stores, visiting family and friends and having dim sum with them. Mrs. Leung was a cheerful and loving person, always making everyone around her feel comfortable and welcome. As a result, she constantly had visitors at her apartment.

In 2018, Mrs. Leung moved to stay with Dominic, receiving care and support from the AHS Home Service. Mrs. Leung had her 100th birthday on April 26, 2022. After a short stay at Edmonton General Continuing Care, she finally succumbed to age and illness and rested in peace on April 4, 2023.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday, April 13 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Park Memorial Chapel, 9709 – 111 Avenue.

A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Leung will be held Friday, April 14 at 10:00 a.m. at Park Memorial Chapel. Interment to follow in Northern Lights Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covenant Health Edmonton General Continuing Care Centre https://covenantfoundation.ca/donate-online.
