We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Sophie Smith on February 22, 2023, at the age of 87 years.

Sophie is survived by her husband, Joe; daughter, Patricia (Brent); sons, David and Steve (Deanna); seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; siblings, Pauline Chmelyk, Annette Venance, Joyce Gashinsky, John (Ruth) Lychak and Elizabeth Sproule; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Joanne; parents, Steve and Victoria Lychak; siblings, Mary Zerdecki, Stefania Petryk, Wilma Fulmes, Lena Thomas, Peter Lychak and Steve Lychak; brothers-in-law, Mike, Albert, William, Graham, Michael, Peter, Sam and Les; and sisters-in-law, Pauline and Lorraine.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Capital Care Dickinsfield for the exceptional care given to Sophie.

Prayers will be held Thursday, March 2, 2023, at 6 p.m. at Park Memorial Chapel, 9709 – 111 Avenue, Edmonton. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, March 3, 2023, at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew Roman Catholic Church, 13131 – 86 Street with entombment in Holy Cross Mausoleum.
