Obituary for Brian Wayne McBride

Brian Wayne McBride
Brian Wayne McBride, age 78, of Edmonton, Alberta, peacefully passed away on December 4, 2022, surrounded by loved ones.

Born February 3, 1944 in Edmonton, Alberta, he was the son of the late Phoenix A. McBride and Eva Jean (McDonald) McBride. His father unfortunately passed away early in his life, so he was raised by both his mother and grandmother. Brian developed a strong interest in shop and automotives in high school and this passion continued throughout his life. After graduating from Victoria Composite High School in 1961, he worked hard and took any odd jobs he could find to learn and build experience in the industry. It was during these early years where his strong work ethic developed and shaped the person he became.

In 1972, Brian began his lifetime career at Everall Construction. In his first position, he worked for company founder Ron Everall as a Purchaser. By 1978, he had eight plants under his supervision and was promoted to Equipment Manager. Over the next decade, the company continued to grow and thrive. On July 31, 1987, he and several co-workers narrowly survived a tornado that completely devastated Everall Construction. He was then tasked with the massive undertaking of documenting the building and equipment damage and filing the insurance documents so the company could rebuild. By 1995, Brian took over troubled RSE as part of his responsibility and began running this division, pulling its nine tankers out of debt. In 2001, the takeover by Colas greatly expanded his role and he was promoted to Plants Manager. He was responsible for the mobilization and maintenance of E Construction’s fifteen asphalt plants and remained a prominent fixture at the company until his retirement in 2016.

Although considered a private man, Brian enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends. He was a dog-lover and liked time outdoors working in his yard. He was classic car enthusiast and his favourite pastime was talking shop. He enjoyed watching sports, especially hockey and was a devoted Edmonton Oilers fan.

Brian is survived by his loving children Robin McBride, Kelly (Dean) Sinclair, Christiana McBride, Jeff McBride and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. He will be laid to rest at the Beechmount Cemetery in Edmonton, Alberta. Memorial donations may be made on his behalf to the Canadian Cancer Society.
