Obituary for Christine Delorme

Christine Delorme
Our family announces with great sorrow the loss of our Beloved mother, Christine - Naatwiipiiksaakii “Holy Bird Woman”. She was called by the Creator on December 16, 2022, at the age of 80 years. Christine is predeceased by her loving husband, William and cherished son, Wayne. She was born in Cardston, Alberta in February 1942. She lived on the Blood Tribe reservation for many years and later moved to Edmonton where she met her husband, William.

Christine was a Residential School Survivor on the Blood Tribe. She was also a cancer survivor too. Christine was a regular church member of ICPM (Inner City Pastoral Ministry) held at the Bissell Centre. Our mother was baptized a Catholic but she grew closer to her Indigenous traditions by attending conferences in Lethbridge and Edmonton. She took pride in her Blackfoot culture and would visit every summer in southern Alberta to see her grandkids dance in pow wows. She would also visit her siblings and family. Christine’s interests were gardening and cooking as she made the best oven baked bannock. She loved to knit, sew blankets and bead. She loved spending time with family and friends. She was very loyal to her husband of 55 years, she was always by his side when he was in the General hospital. Our mother suffered in silence when our dad passed but never showed it when her family was around her. She always had a warm loving smile and a kind heart. Not a day went by where she missed our dad and brother. She is resting with them now and that brings peace to all of us.

Christine will be lovingly remembered by her children, Yvonne Delorme (Harry Cardinal), Tina Cardinal (Grant Cardinal), and Janet Delorme (Tim Herman); her grandchildren, Blaine, Wesley, Warren, Jason, Brandon, Preston, Marcus, Marcella, Lucas, Maverick, and Hope Cardinal; her great-grandchildren, Camille, Gabriel, Roseanna, Wyatt, Wade, Wayne, Christina, Lucious, Kalise, Kallie, Tyrell, Tianna, Jaydell, Jason Jr, Jacoby, Jalayah, Elliott, Jayde, Eli-Jaxson, Maximus, Rayanna, and Ryker (Cardinal); one brother, Norbert Across the Mountain; sister-in-law, Dorothy Delorme; two brothers-in-law, Harold Delorme and Raymond Delorme; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Our mom is predeceased by her parents, John Across the Mountain and Lily (Shot Both Sides); siblings, Mary Across the Mountain, Mary - Stella Bare Shin Bone, Roger Across the Mountain, Lily Across the Mountain, Bernadette Hairy Bull, Isabel Cole, James Across the Mountain, and Joe Across the Mountain; father and mother-in-law, Archibald Delorme and Lena Delorme; and siblings-in-law, Alma, Vivian, Margaret, Jimmy, Donald, and Ronald.

Family and Friends can pay their respects on Monday, January 2, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Park Memorial Chapel, 9709 – 111 Avenue.

Funeral Service on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Park Memorial Chapel. Conducting the service will be Pastor Quinn Strikwerda of ICPM (Inner City Pastoral Ministry). We will have a traditional Indigenous service performed at the same time. All are welcome.
