Obituary for Sofi Wilcox

Sofi Wilcox
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Sofi Wilcox on Saturday, July 30, 2022.

Sofi is survived by her loving husband, Jim; children, Keith (Stephanie) Wilcox and their children, Brandon Wilcox and Spencer Wilcox, Laura (Timothy) Shaver and their children, David (Charlotte) Law, Jason (Dianna) Law, Erinn (Ryan) Stothart, Andrew Shaver and Isaac Shaver, Deborah (Mickey) McCord and their children, Daniel (Jessica) Reed, Jordan Wilcox, Gracie McCord, Tristian McCord, Gillian McCord, Darrell (Tamra) Wilcox and their children, Natalie Wilcox, Luke Wilcox, Sophie Wilcox; great-grandchildren, Zane, Katrina, Russell, Landon, Camille, Gideon, and Elenia.

Predeceased by her parents, Peter and Helen; and her brother, Victor.

Sofi was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities over the years giving compassionate service and care to others. She sewed hundreds of beautiful infant gowns which were donated to hospitals to dress deceased infants. She and Jim loved their time spent serving within the LDS Temple, providing sweet and kind attention to others.

Sofi was a very hard worker who sought opportunities to learn and improve herself. She left home at the age of 16 with $5 in her pocket. She found work and supported her younger sisters as they improved their education. She took a comptometer course and worked before marriage in Edmonton, Calgary, Ottawa, and Vancouver. She and Jim met at work. For Jim, it was love at first sight, but Sofi was enjoying her freedom as a young working woman. Her children are grateful that Jim didn't give up - he even followed her to Vancouver and finally convinced her to marry him!

Throughout her life, Sofi saved money and was frugal, but she also loved beautiful things like Royal Dalton figurines, crystal chandeliers, elegant clothes and shoes which she wore to many church and CMA (accounting) galas with Jim. She had a large garden and spent countless hours weeding, picking, and preserving food each year. Sofi's three big passions were fashion, sewing (quilting), and FISHING! She was a tenacious fisherwoman in the lakes across Alberta and Saskatchewan. She never wanted to come in, even though the fish weren't biting and everyone else was tired and the clouds were brewing! Sofi was an intelligent, independent, loving, kind, elegant, and gracious woman who will be missed by many.

A special thank-you to Lifestyle Options Whitemud for their kind care and support.
