Obituary for William Gordon "Bill" Wyatt

William Gordon "Bill" Wyatt
We are sad to announce the passing of Bill Wyatt on February 5, 2023, a few days after his 92nd birthday, following 62 years of marriage to Ruth and a lifetime of bringing happiness to his family and friends.

Bill was born in Rocanville, SK on February 2, 1931. He began a career with the Bank of Toronto (before it became TD) in Saskatchewan in 1950 and made his way to Edmonton a few years later. In 1958 he asked his co-worker Ruth out on a date and after much hesitation, she said yes. Ruth said yes again at their wedding in 1960 and together they travelled life’s highway for six decades, sometimes with kids fighting in the back seat and always with country music in the background.

Bill enjoyed nothing better than family gatherings at their Ottewell home, especially the Christmas gatherings that brought kids and grandkids from from across the country. He loved working outside in his yard and sharing his bounty of raspberries. He enjoyed curling, cross-country skiing and golf – notably the 50-year tradition of TD bank golf tournaments in Jasper. Bill was also a huge Oiler and Esks fan – a season ticket holder for both during the glory years.

Bill’s career with TD spanned four decades and took him from small-town Saskatchewan to Edmonton to Fort St. John and then back to Edmonton. The network of lifelong friends he made through the bank was remarkable. He also had a proud record of community service with the Edmonton Host Lions Club, Ottewell United Church and other volunteer and charitable activities.

Bill’s final years were spent living in Sherwood Park at Bedford and Emerald Hills homes. He passed away peacefully after seeing his family for the final time.

Bill is survived by his wife, Ruth; daughter, Carmen (Erich) of Calgary and their children, Christie and Brady; son, Gordon (Gail) of Edmonton and children, Lauren, Ian and Graeme; and son, Mark (Karen) of Regina and children, Julia and Brett. He was predeceased by parents, Gordon and Marie; and sisters, Maxine (Stan) and Donalda (Sam).

A Memorial Service will be held May long weekend. An update will be posted to this obituary when details are finalized.
