Many happy memories....

I have many happy memories; far too many to count.

I remember as a very young boy of about 5, my brothers and sisters were all at school most of the day, and I was alone at home with Mom. That's a blessing on its own, right there!

I recall how I'd watch her using the old style 'wringer washer' downstairs, her talking to me the whole time, and me thinking what it'd be like to stick my fingers between the rollers....she warned me against this, but I know she kept an eye on me, anyways! We'd go upstairs for lunch, and she'd tell me fascinating and vivid stories about her childhood, her family and Ireland. She'd drum her fingernails on the table top in the sound of a galloping horse, and I'd try to copy her. These are some simple, but special memories for me, and I believe I held onto these memories over the years because I felt safe, warm and valued as a child....these are only a few of the gifts my mom gave to me and to all of her children as a young woman. She never stopped giving these gifts as she grew older.....and I still have these gifts inside of me. Thank you, Mom.

Mom also taught me how to put my socks on by, first, turning them halfway inside out....I still do this, and it's coming in handy as 'I' get older.....thanks, Mom.... I love you!
